What it is I do

A little info on what it is I do: I evaluate hormonal imbalances, by looking at relative ratios of the function of central to peripheral endocrine organs that form the basic messenger system coordinating our bodily functions from the "macro" level down to the microscopie metabolic reactions inside every cell. Peripheral endocrine organs include the thyroid, adrenal gland hormones such as an individual’s cortisol response to counter inflammation, and metabolic pathways that lead to conversion of genital hormones from hormones secreted by the adrenal gland into estrogen, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone, DHT and aldosterone. Hormones such as growth hormone and prolactin are also assessed, which play a particular role during growth from early childhood to adulthood, but also during periods such as lactation and perform a function all throughout the lifespan of an individual to controlling entry of nutrients into cells. The diagnostic work up entails a basic blood test which puts into perspective what is circulating in the blood and infers the ratio through an algorithm positioning it with central hormones released by the brain (such as FSH, LH, TSH) within what is known as the HPA (Hypothalamus Pituitary Axis) that stimulate these peripheral hormone productions and their release , to give an overall impression of why someone is for instance feeling fatigued despite conventional quantitative tests showing up within a normal range. The treatment approach is to support the physiological function of the individual within his or her particular physiology during the particular point in time and offer solutions adapted to them with lifestyle recommendations, an adapted nutrition plan, supplementation of micronutrients, and treating with plant-based medicine where indicated for a more long-term prevention approach. I assist patients in reducing their medication where possible by helping them regain function of their endocrine systems and an improved balance metabolically. Crucial periods of support are the adaptive periods around adolescence and meno- /andropause. I also specialize in women with infertility and symptoms around menstrual cycles that are showing signs of hormonal imbalance (endometriosis, PCOS, Fibroids, PMS).
